An accumulator stores hydraulic energy. A hydraulic pump may not be able to supply sufficient energy at certain times during the cycle of a machine, i.e. during peak fluctuations and the accumulator provides additional energy to meet the demands pf the system. The energy absorbing capability of an accumulator can also be used to reduce pulsations and absorb shocks caused by hydraulic transients.Bladder accumulators consist of an external pressure shell containing an elastomeric bladder which is pre-charged with inert nitrogen gas, compression of which allows the oil to be stored within the accumulator and expansion of which delivers oil to the system.
